For specialist survey UGL came to de Witt Consulting to undertake surveys of the existing towers on site and generate working drawings to allow the off site prefabrication of gantry sections to fit between the existing towers, specifically utilising existing bolt holes within these towers. The towers were over 25m high and access to multiple areas of the substation was restricted due to safe working conditions. de Witt Consulting was able to utilise Laser Scanning technology to quickly and easily capture 3D point clouds of the towers and maintain safe working requirements of the site. The deliverables for this project included plans created from point cloud data. Post prefabrication UGL reported that the new gantry sections accurately aligned with the existing bolt holes and that this particular project element was a success.
