Laser Scanning Technology provides a cost-effective survey solution where a high level of accurate detail is required for design and engineering applications, monitoring and dilapidation surveys and access constrained sites.
The Laser Scanner has also been utilised on projects to create safe working for personnel where conventional techniques cannot be undertaken safely or other controls are difficult to obtain.
A Laser Scanner collects hundreds of thousands of closely spaced surface geometry measurements (points) to high accuracy in just minutes. These surface points combine to form a ‘point cloud’ which when displayed on a computer screen or cad software/viewers etc. forms a dense 3D bitmap image of the surveyed area. The point cloud can be viewed and navigated much like a 3D model, however each of these scanned points is not simply a pixel, it has true site X, Y and Z coordinates which can be interrogated.
Laser Scanning can decrease engineering costs, allow reverse engineering, shorten programs, generate ‘’as-built’’ documentation ideal for asset management and provide a whole new perspective on projects.
Laser Scanning also offers an ideal input for designing modifications to existing sites, structures or facilities.
The data can be delivered as point cloud data or as modelled 3D surfaces and shapes. As-built models can be produced from the point cloud data providing the client with an intelligent virtual 3D environment that accommodates the basis for future planning and maintenance. Among other features our point cloud/scan software can simulate ‘’clash detection’’ which ensures component conflicts can be avoided during design, colour map deformation on structures and model point clouds into 3D surfaces. Our laser scanner can also capture high definition images that can be overlaid onto the point cloud. This simulates an environment with real-world colours ideal for streetscapes where a real-world representation is needed.
