In early 2020 de Witt Consulting expanded its services into the realm of biodiversity and introduced de Witt Ecology. Since then, the demand for de Witt’s ecology services has significantly increased. As a result, the de Witt Ecology team has grown.
We are pleased to take this opportunity to introduce our Ecology Manager and Senior Ecologist, Alejandro Barreto and Ecologist Dr. Alan Midgley.
Alejandro joined de Witt Ecology in March 2021 bringing over eight years’ experience across a number of key industry sectors, including urban industrial and solar farm infrastructure. Alejandro has been involved in a wide range of projects throughout NSW including ecological assessments, biodiversity assessments (Bio Banking and BAM), floristic surveys, vegetation mapping, targeted threatened flora surveys, reviews of environmental factors, offset strategies, vegetation management plans and monitoring plans. Being a Biodiversity Assessment Method Accredited Assessor, Alejandro has experience conducting field BAM assessments under the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 coupled with a strong and practical understanding of ecology and relevance to legislative processes.
Alan joined de Witt Ecology in November 2020 bringing 10 years’ experience combined in terrestrial and aquatic ecology, bush regeneration and post-graduate research. He has played an integral role in a number of ecological projects, small and large, throughout NSW, including in the telecommunication, energy and transport sectors as well as the private sector. His responsibilities performing field assessments have included floristic plots, vegetation mapping, targeted threatened flora and fauna species surveys, tree clearance supervision, hollow-bearing tree surveys and mine monitoring surveys. Alan has prepared a range of reports within both large and small teams including Biodiversity Assessment Reports, Biodiversity Development Assessment Reports, Biodiversity Constraints and Opportunities Reports and Vegetation Management Plans. Being a Biodiversity Assessment Method Accredited Assessor, Alan has experience conducting field BAM assessments under the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016.
The de Witt Ecology team also benefits from another two team members who assist with fieldwork, reporting and GIS mapping. Since early 2020, de Witt Ecology has contributed to a great number of projects, including the preparation of Biodiversity Development Assessment Reports (BDAR), Biodiversity Assessment Reports (BAR), Biodiversity Constraints and Opportunities Appraisals, Vegetation Management Plans, Remediation and Rehabilitation Plans, and targeted flora and fauna surveys.
We are excited to see how the de Witt Ecology team continues to grow and excel in this critical area of environmental assessment that complements de Witt Consulting’s other services including town planning, surveying and GIS.
